How to motivate kids to write

Writing is an important skill used for communication and expressing oneself .

We write every day to complete various tasks. In today’s time whether students are writing by hand or on the computer, many assignments and exams require students to write short answers or longer essays as a way of assessing what they have learned.

The Blue Bells School knows well that writing can be as difficult a subject to teach and assess as it is to learn. Many students have trouble writing with clarity, coherence, and organization, and this can discourage them from writing and they feel frustrated.

Parents and teachers play an important role in encouraging students to learn and master the skill of writing. By doing so they can contribute to the child’s future success as a student and as an adult while teaching him how to express himself in the best possible way.

There are several strategies which are used by our experienced teachers to create positive reinforcement for learning the skills of writing in English. They are:

1. Encourage the students, not criticize them.

2. Give them liberty to write on their favorite topic.

3. Provide prompts to facilitate the children.

4. Use stimuli like sketch, pictures to encourage your students.

5. Not all writing assignments need to be marked. Some can be for discussion and fun.

When the writing skills are cultivated we ensure that :
The students get the opportunity to talk about their work.

2. They must revise and review their work. They should be told to have clarity, and accuracy in the content.

3. Various play way methods can be devised to ease the tension and make writing cathartic.

To write well we can teach them the concept of CODER.

CODER is the process used for cultivating good writing skills. In that, C is used to collect your ideas; O is to organize your ideas; D is to make your first draft and E denotes editing your work and R is used to revise the work.

By using this technique we can expect to get a good piece of writing.
